Quite nice. The ink has excellent lubrication, even in drier pens like my Lamy Safari. With wetter pens like my Pelikan M120 with M-nib, the ink leaves a very saturated blue line, and in the process loses most of the shading. My guess is that with wetter pens, you need broader nibs to bring out the shading again..

Ink Review 772 J Herbin Eclat de Saphir — Mountain of Ink

Welcome to my review of Herbin Éclat de Saphir! This is one of my favorite inks. It's a very popular blue ink, widely accepted as one of the nicer blues among the fountain pen enthusiasts. It's one of the more saturated Herbin inks, with nice flow and better-than-average permanence. I took some nice pictures and will let them speak for.

J. Herbin Ink Cartridges Eclat de Saphir (Sapphire Blue)

J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir 1 is a very bright, pure blue-purple - the best name for the colour might be periwinkle or cornflower. There is plenty of shading and no sheen. This ink has a good flow and an exceptionally lubricated feeling. It is not water resistant, but if you dry it off quickly enough, it should still be readable.

Éclat de Saphir is a gorgeous, vibrant blue ink with lots of character and depth. I love how it pops off the page when I'm writing and even after it's dried. I'm very pleased when inks retain the same level of saturation when they dry as when the ink is wet, and this ink is no exception.

I received this ink as a sample from a member on FPN. I confess, I never thought of buying it because it seemed too similar to Quink Washable Blue and De Atramentis Sapphire, both of which I have. Let me tell you, there is just something about this ink that sets it apart from the rest in its clas.

Eclat de Saphir is a wonderfully vibrant true blue, very similar in hue to Diamine's Sapphire Blue (surprising nobody), and it produces no sheen. You'll get some shading from the ink (certainly more than Baystate Blue), but not a ton; the color is generally pretty smooth and even. Flow with this Herbin ink is just about perfect!
